Tabitha is a long-time adult client of Esperanza who has actively participated in both the Community Day and Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) programs. She radiates joy and kindness, and whenever someone is having a tough day, Tabitha brightens the room with her warm smile.
Happily completing her word search of the day, Tabitha gives us a recap of how much fun she had at our Autism Awareness event, “Singing for Awareness,” organized by the dedicated Esperanza Associate Board. “There were a lot of people… It was fun, I liked it,” she says, her face lighting up with a big grin. She goes on to describe the atmosphere and her favorite moments from the karaoke night. “We had fun because we like to sing,” she adds, “I sang and danced to the electric slide; I’m good at dancing… I was smiling because I was dancing.”
The Associate Board is just one of the many ways in which we try to spread the Esperanza mission throughout the community. The Associate Board is comprised of young professionals that dedicate their time and energy to help plan and execute fundraising events for the organization and their goal is to help break down social barriers that society has created for the community of people with disabilities.
“Singing for Awareness” Karaoke night exemplifies how these events not only help bring awareness to Esperanza but also allow the opportunity for our clients to get more involved within the community and truly shine by showing off their amazing skills and interests.
